Sentencing Threat to George Michael Gig

Sentencing Threat to George Michael Gig:

In a statement released last night, the singer said: “I have accepted throughout this affair that I was not in a fit state to have been driving a motor vehicle in the early hours of October 1 2006 and accordingly pleaded guilty to the charge of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs before Brent Magistrates' Court on May 8 2007.

“I am delighted that at today's hearing the court accepted that the proper approach to my case is that which I have always maintained, in that I was unfit through a combination of tiredness and prescribed drugs, and that I will be sentenced on this basis.”

Sentencing has been put back to 8 June - four days before the singer's Carrow Road concert.

But promoters insisted the star would be able to make the gig and the one at Wembley the day after sentencing, claiming lawyers would resolve any issues.

George Michael had "Cocktail of Drugs in System"

George Michael had "Cocktail of Drugs in System"

The pop star George Michael had a cocktail of legal and illegal drugs in his system when he was found slumped at the wheel of his Mercedes, a London court heard today.

Prosecutor Andrew Torrington told Brent magistrates court that tests showed the 43-year-old singer, who admitted driving while unfit earlier this month, had a sleeping drug and a therapeutic quantity of an anti-depressant in his system, along with the illegal dance drug GHB - a class C substance.

Mr Torrington said cannabis was also found in Michael's blood, but the prosecution did not maintain that this was the cause of his intoxication.

Michael Grieve, mitigating, argued that the former Wham! star's condition was caused by prescription drugs.

He said there was a strong body of opinion that said a sleeping drug was the most likely explanation for his state, adding it was possible that GHB could be present in the blood without any illegal substances having been taken.

The court heard that although GHB was banned, its effects could be created by legal substances including a drug called GBL. Mr Grieve agreed with the district judge, Katherine Marshall, that the level of the singer's unfitness could be viewed as high.

Michael faces a maximum six-month jail term, but his guilty plea and first time conviction means the judge is likely to sentence more leniently.

Judge Marshall today adjourned sentence until June 8, the day before Michael is due to play the first concert at the new Wembley stadium as part of his current European tour.

"George Michael Had Cocktail of Drugs in His System," Court Hears

"George Michael Had Cocktail of Drugs in His System," Court Hears:

Mr Grieve agreed with District Judge Katherine Marshall that the level of the singer's unfitness could be viewed as high.

He said there was no dispute as to the description of the singer's condition as being semi-conscious at the wheel.

But in terms of considering sentence, he told the district judge: "One looks at the unfitness, not the cause of it. Whatever the level is, that's all you need to look at."

He later added: "We will not be contending on behalf of the defendant that the fact that his condition was due to the consumption of prescribed drugs combined with tiredness as opposed to any illegal drugs is a mitigating feature of the offence.

"Subject to that, we will be inviting the court to sentence him on the basis of plea ... after hearing full mitigation."

But the 43-year-old, who was not in court today, will not be sentenced over the drugs in his system after district judge Catherine Marshall agreed not to use the doctor's report to decide his punishment.

Willie Williams Wins with Barco

Willie Williams Wins with Barco:

Barco, a leader in creative LED technology, is proud to congratulate show designer Willie Williams on being named “Best in Book” in this year’s Creative Review Annual. Williams was included in the annual for the design of the impressive stage set on the recent George Michael 25 Live Tour.

Creative Review, is the world’s leading monthly magazine for visual communication. The Creative Review Annual, published each May, is the definitive collection of the best work in graphic design, advertising from all over the world.

The stage design of George Michael tour, centered around a dramatic “ski slope” LED video screen, which flows onto the stage and beyond via both concave and convex curves to create a stunning visual element, strong enough to be both stood and danced on. The screen measuring 9 meters wide by 25 meter wide incorporated 3000 of Barco's new MiSTRIP LED modules. The screen was a technical first, and was custom made for the concert.

“It was a colossal undertaking,’” says Willie Williams. “I’d had this in mind for a long time and George seemed the prefect person for it…I’m always dealing with things that are only just possible – the technology and the show developed hand in hand.”

Eli Stone

Q&A with Jonny Lee Miller for 'The Flying Scotsman'

HW: What's next on the horizon for you?

JLM: I shot a pilot for ABC, but we don't know if it got picked up yet so we have to wait a couple of weeks to hear about that. If it gets picked up, I will have to sign a contract. It's called Eli Stone and I play Eli, a high powered lawyer who starts hearing things and seeing weird things that lead him to take on a case he wouldn't normally take on--to help a woman and her child. Then he's diagnosed with a medical condition. It's ambiguous as to whether he's seeing things because of his brain, or if there's something more spiritual to it. It's sort of a drama-comedy. It's got a great script and the possibilities, when doing something like that, are quite enormous.

George Michael May Flee Britain

George Michael May Flee Britain:

Singer George Michael said he may quit Britain to escape the relentless media attention on his troubled private life.

He admitted to a dependency on prescription drugs, called marijuana much less harmful than alcohol, and said he had developed a "very-self destructive" streak since the death of his mother a decade ago.

"I have started thinking for the first time in my life that actually I shouldn't be living here," Michael told ITV talk show host Michael Parkinson in a show being broadcast tomorrow.

Reflecting on the intense media coverage he has received, he said: "I have got to think seriously about whether or not my love for my country is keeping me somewhere which is not good for me, you know."

Michael's agent said he has houses in London and Dallas, Texas.

George Splashes out on Art

The 43-year-old singer has apparently spent £20 million on pieces by controversial artist Damien Hirst in the last month, boosting his personal collection to a massive £80 million, the Daily Mirror reports.

A source close to George told the paper: "George is hugely into his art. He made a lot of money from his 53-date tour last year and he thought this would be a good way to invest it."

Eli Stone

A preview of Eli Stone is now available at ABC. (This is like a dream come true!) Go and post in the ABC message board about how happy you are to see George Michael.

Here's a brief description of the show.

Eli Stone: A guy starts hearing songs in his head—George Michael's "Faith," for instance—and the din reaches a point that, disconnected from reality, he finds himself believing he's at a George Michael concert when in fact he's in his office at a corporate law firm in San Francisco. Then, doing some kind of pro bono work against his better interests, he meets a hot chick with an autistic son. During a home visit, Eli sees that the kid has spelled "GEORGE MICHAEL" with his building blocks. But maybe Eli just has a brain tumor. This is for real.

A Thirst for Hirst

A Thirst for Hirst:

Spending more than $2 million to buy John Lennon's piano may have made headlines for British pop star George Michael, but he and his Dallasite partner, Kenny Goss, routinely drop big dollars on collectibles. Some estimates value their private art collection north of $150 million. They are two of the world's pre-eminent collectors of artworks by Damien Hirst.

While the couple spent much of the spring at their Highland Park home, they are now in London and making the rounds at the art auctions. Kenny owns Dallas' Goss Gallery.

They were just spotted giving covetous looks at Mr. Hirst's Lullaby Winter Pill cabinet and Cecily Brown's Pajama Game.

U.S. Television Show and U.S. Tour

Comedy Show for George:

He revealed his plans included a role in a new comedy drama in the US as well as taking his greatest hits tour to the States.

He said: "I'm going to have the most phenomenal year.

"There's an American tour planned and a big US comedy drama called Eli Stone which stars Jonny Lee Miller."

George added the producers of the upcoming series, about a lawyer who begins to think he is a prophet, also want to name each episode after one of his songs.

A Peak into TV's Annual Frenzy of Pilot Season:

Afterward, he (executive producer Greg Berlanti of "Eli Stone") traveled to London to film singer George Michael (the focus of Stone's inexplicable visions), followed by a trip to San Francisco for some "Stone" location shooting. Then it was back to Los Angeles to wrap the "Stone" pilot, before heading to New York to start "Dirty Sexy Money," which stars Peter Krause (of "Six Feet Under" fame) as an idealistic lawyer caught up in some dirty dealings.

TV's Prime Time to Sell

Along with the "Grey's" spinoff, "Private Practice," insiders say it also appears ABC has picked up "Dirty Sexy Money" (an idealistic lawyer inherits his late dad's suspect rich client), "Eli Stone" (another lawyer show), "Women's Murder Club" (based on the series of James Patterson mysteries), "Pushing Daisies" (a romantic procedural drama) and "Big Shots" (about wild CEOs).

Experts Lose Faith in George Michael

Thought you'd all get a chuckle out "Experts Lose Faith in George Michael," as it's so clearly wrong considering the news recently that George Michael now has a television career and U.S. tour in the works.

Singer George Michael Admits Driving Charge at London Court

Singer George Michael Admits Driving Charge at London Court:

Pop star George Michael admitted driving while unfit through drugs on the first day of his trial at a London court on Tuesday.

Appearing confused during the hearing at Brent Magistrates' Court in north London, Michael, real name George Panayiotou, said he was guilty because of "tiredness and prescribed drugs".

Prosecutors dropped a further charge of being in charge of a vehicle while unfit through drugs.

George Michael pleads guilty to drug driving:

Speaking directly to Judge Katherine Marshall he said: "I did something very stupid and I am very ashamed since doing it. I'm not used to defending myself in a position where I am ashamed of something.

"I really have been very distressed by this whole thing. I am perfectly aware that I did something very wrong and got into my car when I was unfit to drive.

"I was not in my normal physical state and I'm perfectly prepared to accept the correct punishment for that."

George Michael pleads guilty to drug-driving charge:

Addressing the court Michael apologised for not pleading guilty earlier and blamed his previous legal team.

He said: "I genuinely believe I only knew the full possibility of this in the last week and that since I took on Mr Spiro I realised I had been in a combination of misinformation and shame."
