Yours Only George Web Site Celebrates Its 11th Birthday

On June 1, 2008, Yours Only George celebrated its 11th birthday. It’s a bittersweet celebration for me as it occurs just at the time George Michael is starting his first tour in the U.S. for 17 years and I’m not going to see him.  It’s the end of a dream for me as I now know I’ll never see him perform live again and I’ll never have the chance to meet him.  It’s a dream I’ve had for 23 years … since 1985. Of all the goals and dreams I’ve ever had, I suppose this was the most illogical and unachievable one on the list.  But it still saddens me that it’s over.

I’d like to thank all of the regulars who keep visiting day after day. I know I haven’t been very good about keeping up with the site lately in terms of news, links, and mail, and I do apologize.

I also have to thank Shannon, who was the driving force of Yours Only George, dating back to the 80s. Without her, I don’t know what I’d do.

And of course, I would like to thank George Michael.  George, your music in the last few months has kept me sane through a difficult time.  Thank you for not forgetting your U.S. fans.

  1. Melanie, You’ve done a wonderful job with the site. It’s always very professional and worthwhile. I hope there will be some future opportunity for you to see George perform or meet him. You never know. Don’t lose faith!

  2. 😉
Thank you for everything you’ve done. I’ve visited your site for years every morning to check on news about George Michael.

Don’t give up. Maybe you’ll see George Michael in concert one day.

  3. I, too, have had the dream, in my case
for 24 years. I will see him and I promise
to think of you. That kind of faith should
    be rewarded.

  4. Congratulations! You are simply the best.
The first time I wanted to learn something about GM, I found you. After 10 years, I have two important blogs on GM now. You are still my first as the admin of Yogtube and George Michael Türkiye.
thank you for the good job, Melanie.
    Cheers 🙂

  5. This is an excellent site and I am proud to have a link to it on my blog. I will always come here first for the latest news. Best wishes and my regrets that you will not be at the show this summer. You will be missed!

  6. Dear Melanie !!!
Congratulation, you’ve done a great job with this web site throuh all the years!!!!!! 🙂
Every day when I am in the internet, your site is the first I check if there are any news about George.
And I know exactly what you are going through that you can’t see him live during his US-tour. It’s the same with me, but who knows, George’s full of surprises, I am sure he will tour again or will perform somewhere, somehow, and then there will be a chance for you to see him or to meet him!!!!
Don’t give up and thanks again for your work to keep going on this wonderful site.
    Love Claudia

  7. Oh my god 11 years. I was just in school when i visited this site first !

PS- god i am getting old , remenescing & shit.

I wish for ur efforts George should MEET U.

  8. Hi Melanie,

Happy 11th birthday to Yours Only George! And long may the site continue 😀
Thanks, also to Shannon ofcourse, for providing George’s fanbase with all the latest news and so much more(and I like the new blogstyle). You’ve put so much time and energy into it, it’s really a shame you can’t make it to see The Man perform live in the States in the coming tour. Hopefully you will at some point in the future!
    Greetings, Lizzy 😉

  9. H,Mell!
I can understand this feeling of the dream that is fading away, but keep up. I was born 1981 and was living in former URSS area so I was sure that I will never see GM performing. But in 2002 my life has changed, I mooved to Italy for the studings, I met “man of my life” and we were together on the show of 25 live tour in Milan, so nothing is impossible.
Thank you very much for the site,I am here for 5 years already!

  10. All the news reports are saying that George is retiring from touring … so this really was my last chance. Thanks for all the encouraging words, but my dream is dead.

  11. @ Tonitstar

If you can miraculously get George Michael to tour in Michigan, then you can help me. 😉 A lot of people have offered their help, which has been so awesome, but unless George Michael tours in Michigan, the tour–and I figure ever meeting George Michael–is out for me.

You have to all remember I’m no one, and George Michael isn’t extending his hand out to me to make my dream come true. It’s understandable. It’s sad that the fans appreciate everything I’ve done for the George Michael community but that George Michael himself doesn’t really appreciate it. Maybe I pissed him off at some point. Maybe he thinks I’m just another of the psycho fans. I don’t know.

  12. Melanie,
I’ve been coming here for years as well, at least 10, and used to post on the message board back in the day. Don’t give up hope. I never thought I’d see GM in concert and here I am going!
I also do a website for an actress and had done so for years and thought maybe someday she’d contact me, but it never happend. THen I found out she was going to be someplace, and I had the opportunity to meet her & when I went up to her & told her I have been doing a website for her, she was so shocked & surprised to have met me, she told me with delight what a good job I’ve done and she likes it & visits it all the time. I have since met her twice after, and finally got her email address, but emailed her, and she hasn’t repied as of yet (over a month ago) I guess celebrities are busy and sometimes don’t think about taking the time to thank or contact the other people out there working on sites, news, photos, video for them other than their “official” site people.
I really do hope someday you will get a message or something.
I know people have offered to help, and I will too, but you’d have to travel to Minneapolis, because that’s the concert I have an extra ticket to.
    Best wishes,
    🙂
    Danielle

  13. Hey Melanie,

This makes no sense. George’s music has kept me alive for so long, and your website has kept me updated on everything that was going on. You have to see him. If you are available on July 18th, please let me know. We’ll find a way to get you to Montreal and you can join my friends and I. We have an extra ticket. All those years of news, I really feel I owe you.

    Let me know!

    Sonia

  14. Hey Melanie,

Congratulations! You have done an amazing job with your website, I hope you will continue to do so. I am sorry to hear your dream is dead 😥 Wish I could make it otherwise!

  15. I would just like to thank all of you once again for your support. Only other George Michael fans could truly understand my disappointment at not seeing George Michael perform one last time. I guess I’ve realized that “you can’t always get what you want,” and sometimes losing one dream gives you the time to focus on another dream. So here’s a big thank you to all of you who helped me when I needed you most!

  16. Melanie:

Can you tell us why you couldn’t go to the concert? Are you not able to travel? I drove 3 hours to see him in Atlanta, it was more than worth it!

    Julie

  17. Hi Julie. I was advised by my doctor not to travel long distances this summer, and unfortunately, when there was no concert in Detroit, seeing George Michael perform one last time was not an option.
