Celebrating 29 Years of Yours Only George: A Legacy of Love, Community, and George Michael

Celebrating 29th Anniversary of Yours Only George -- yogworld.com

Twenty‑nine years ago, long before social media, streaming, or smartphones, a small corner of the internet lit up with heart, devotion, and a simple mission: to create a home for fans who loved George Michael as deeply as he inspired them. That corner became Yours Only George — and in 2026, it stands as the longest‑running, continuously active George Michael fan community in the world.

What began in the late 1990s as a fan‑run website has grown into a living archive, a gathering place, and a testament to the enduring power of George’s music, generosity, humor, and humanity. For nearly three decades, Yours Only George has been a space built on passion, respect, and connection — and it continues to thrive because of the people who return year after year to celebrate the man who changed their lives.

A Website George Michael Himself Noticed

One of the most treasured moments in Yours Only George history came in 2004, when George Michael mentioned in an interview that he had Yours Only George — yogworld.com — bookmarked on his computer.

For a fan community, there is no greater honor.

For the people who built this site, it was a moment of quiet validation — proof that the love poured into every page had reached the man at the center of it all.

That connection has remained a guiding light ever since.

A Community That Grew With the Times

From its early days as a fan club with roots stretching back to 1986, to its transformation into a website in 1997, and later into a blog‑style archive in 2008, Yours Only George has evolved with every era of the internet. Yet its heart has never changed.

Over the years, the site has become known for:

  • Timely news articles
  • Detailed historical archives and memorabilia coverage
  • Special interviews and features
  • A warm, welcoming community of fans worldwide
  • Cross‑platform engagement that keeps George’s legacy alive for new generations

From auction coverage to anniversary reflections, from rare photos to fan memories, Yours Only George has remained a trusted, lovingly curated space.

Honoring the Fans Who Made It Possible

A website doesn’t survive 29 years by accident. It survives because people care — deeply.

Yours Only George has been shaped by:

  • Fans who shared stories, photos, and memories
  • Readers who returned year after year
  • Supporters who helped preserve history
  • New fans discovering George for the first time
  • Longtime followers who have been here since the beginning

Every visit, every message, every shared moment has helped keep this community alive.

Looking Ahead to Year 30

As Yours Only George approaches its 30th anniversary in 2027, the mission remains the same: to honor George Michael with integrity, love, and the kind of community he inspired.

The next year will bring new articles, new cross‑platform content, and continued celebration of George’s music and legacy. But most importantly, it will bring the same heart that has carried this site for nearly three decades.

Remembering George Michael on What Would Have Been his 62nd Birthday

Amazon Ad for George Michael’s “Careless Whisper”

Dear George Michael Lovelies,

Today is George Michael’s birthday. It would have been his 62nd birthday if he had been alive. George Michael was born on June 25, 1963.

As many fans understand, I struggle with his birthday every year. Since I was younger than George Michael when he was alive, I recently discovered that I am now older than George Michael will ever be. That is a difficult thing to recognize at this point in my life. Does anyone else feel that way?

This year has personally been a very rough year for me. For the few of you who still visit the site know, I have been contemplating whether I will keep the Yours Only George site open. The site is only earning a few cents a day, which does not cover my costs, and I just don’t know how I can keep it open long-term without figuring out how to get more traffic. I have worked very hard this year to update older parts of the site, despite a few disgruntled fans causing me heartache about the things that currently aren’t updated.

Last year, I posted my happiest and saddest moments for the 28 years that Yours Only George has been online. Obviously, the saddest moment was learning that George Michael would no longer be with us to share his smart and humorous personality, nor his gift for writing and singing songs that defined a generation.

To keep the spirit of George Michael alive for the George Michael fans, I have started a feature called “On this day” on Facebook, X, Threads, and Bluesky, pointing to things that have happened to George Michael through the years. I have forgotten about so many of these things, and it’s so fun to read about them again. Usually, these pages are also updated, which helps me keep things more up to date.

For those of you who were on the mailing list through Feedburner/Google, I have moved the mailing list to Follow.it. You should have received a message asking you to confirm that would you like to continue receiving e-mails. If you’re new to the site, you can subscribe here.

Please consider sharing information about the site, as it helps me pay the bills and keep the site open.

Thanks for your support over the last 28 years!

I hope you all find a special way to celebrate George Michael’s birthday and life today!

Yours Only George Celebrates 28th Anniversary

On this day 28 years ago, my best friend Shannon and I announced the Yours Only George website to the world. We started our website, but would anyone come?

It was a fascinating time to be able to build a website and have it on the first page of Google listings … and have people from all over the world visit.

That time, unfortunately, is over.

Sadly, when you do a search on Google for George Michael, you won’t find this site.

On this special anniversary day of the Yours Only George site, I am asking for the George Michael fans who love this site to help to spread the word to keep the site alive.

I have spent so many hours in the last year, trying to both update the site and spread the word to get more traffic to keep the site going. To be honest, I feel defeated. Without traffic, the site doesn’t earn advertising revenue to pay for the webhost and the domain name.

Yours Only George is the longest running, updated fan-created website. I hope it can continue bringing George Michael news to all the fans for many years to come. But I need your help to make that happen.

If you ever enjoyed this site and if you would still like for it to continue, I am asking that you please continue to spread the word about www.yogworld.com and support our sponsors.

Thank you!

Spinning the Wheel Podcast Yours Only George

Thank You to the Spinning the Wheel Podcast

Spinning the Wheel podcast link

The Spinning the Wheel podcast, a podcast going through the catalog of George Michael track by track, recently posted Christmas memories from George Michael fans all over the world.

The host, Matt, was so very kind in saying how Yours Only George was his source of George Michael information in the 90s.

Matt said, in part, “I wanted to start, first and foremost, with my source of information, my source of George Michael news. In America … information was kind of hard to come by in the old days, and one of the beacons of light that really provided a lot for those of us here in America was the Yours Only George page.”

I’ll let you listen to the Spinning the Wheel podcast if you’d like to hear more about Matt’s thoughts on the site and my Christmas message for the podcast. It is around the 31-minute mark of the podcast.

The Spinning the Wheel podcast has more than 50 episodes about George Michael’s music. The podcast started back in March of 2023. Shirley Lewis, one of George Michael’s backup vocalists, provides insight into George’s music.

Wow! It’s been a fabulous year to be a George Michael fan. So many fun things have come to George Michael’s Lovelies this year! Here’s a quick recap:

In February, we were pleasantly surprised with a George Michael coin from the Royal Mint. George Michael collectable coins are part of the Music Legends series. The coins feature the Faith era look with his trademark sunglasses and an engraving of the refrain of Faith.

On March 22, 2024, Fantastic and Make It Big were released on Vinyl. Wham! also released deluxe editions of Fantastic and Make It Big on BluRay Audio.

“Careless Whisper” reached 1 billion streams on Spotify in May. Earlier in the year, “Careless Whisper” reached 1 billion YouTube views.

Also, in May, George Michael’s “Careless Whisper” topped Smooth’s All Time Top 500 for the 7th Year.

In June, Yours Only George celebrated its 27th anniversary. Thanks to all the fans who continue to visit the site and continue spreading the word about the site as it helps cover the webhosting costs to keep the website open year after year.

June 25th marked what would have been George Michael’s 61st birthday.

In October, we had the 40th anniversary release of “Careless Whisper,” which needless to say, topped the charts once again. With that, we had a number of “Careless Whisper” t-shirts and hoodies as new merchandise.

In November, an animated “Careless Whisper” was also released.

We were once again surprised by a 40th anniversary release of “Last Christmas,” with many “Last Christmas” goodies for our Christmas stockings.

December brought us Wham!: Last Christmas Unwrapped, a lovely special that brought the friends who starred in the “Last Christmas” back together.

“Last Christmas” topped the charts at number 1 for two weeks in December and topped the Christmas charts for the second year in a row. We also were gifted with a new animated “Last Christmas” video.

We also learned of The George Michael Fund, which will give grants to assist the organizations and issues which were close to George’s heart.

December 25, 2024, marked 8 years since we lost our George Michael.

Last but not least, “Last Christmas” topped the UK Charts for the 10th time for the last week of 2024.

I’m sure I missed a few things. Let me know what I missed in the comments!
