New George Michael Single Is “White Light”

George Michael will be releasing “White Light” to radio on June 29, 2012,—30 years to the day that “Wham Rap” entered the British Charts.

George said:

Most of my fans realise that I dreamed of a career as a singer/songwriter from an early age, but never in my wildest imaginings could I have known that I would still be here thirty years later, healthy, happy, and feeling that I still have so much more music to give. It is miraculous in so many ways. Fate has been so kind to me, as have the millions of people that that have bought records and come to see me play year after year since 1982.

George’s entire statement is available at the official site.

“White Light” will be available on Aegean Records through Island/Universal on August 12, 2012. It was written, arranged, and produced by George Michael  The track listing is as follows:

1. White Light
2. Song to the Siren
3. White Light – Voodoo Sonics Remix
4. White Light – Kinky Roland Remix

In related news, George Michael has asked Kate Moss to appear in the video for “White Light.” According to the Mirror, she was upset when she was not invited to be in the “Freedom ’90” video and so George has asked her to appear in a cameo role for the new video.

New Photos from New George Michael Video

More news on the new George Michael video, most likely for “White Light,” the song about George’s near-death experience, is available, but of course not on George’s Twitter account.

The Daily Mail has a number of new photos from the video shoot, as well as additional information.

In one scene George appears to be shot by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department and is seen falling to the ground.

George tried to keep warm with a big coat and a hot drink between takes.  He was also with Fadi Fawaz on set.

According to the Daily Mail, George appeared to get very emotional and even tearful as the painful memories came flooding back.

George Michael Working on New Video

As reported previously, George Michael has been working on a new video, possibly for the song “White Light.”  George was shooting the promo in Canary Wharf in London this weekend.

According to the Sun, a zebra kept interrupting the shoot:

A source said: “The animal had the crew mesmerised as it kept walking into all the lights and cameras.

“It was a little bit spooked by the wind and had to be calmed down.

“George was shooting scenes with actors dressed up as policeman, but even that didn’t divert attention from the animal.”

George Michael’s boyfriend has been tweeting about George’s newest song “White Light.” Fadi Fawaz wrote:

New Song “White Light” Is about George Michael’s Near-Death Experience

George Michael has taken to Twitter again to tell his lovelies about the new song, “White Light,” he is writing.

GOOD MORNING MY LOVELIES !!!

I’ve been a busy boy in the studio this week, mixing symphonica and finally ready to write about what happened to me in Vienna…..

And how grateful I am to be given another chance to live and breathe alongside you all in this wonderful world that we share…

You may recall my reference to those strange individuals who took the time to pray for my death as I lay in my hospital bed back in November

But don’t think I don’t realise how many of you out there prayed for my recovery. I thank you all from the deepest part of my soul xxx

And i will repay your unending kindness the only way I know how. With music.

Yesterday I began to write a song called “White Light”. It’s for all of you, for everyone who prayed for me, for every one of you who has ..

…prayed for me, for every person who has stopped me in the streets to ask me how I’m doing, you have made me feel so blessed.

And I promise you it’s a blinder. 🙂

Possible Duet with Adele

The Mirror is reporting that George Michael plans to duet with Adele.

My source tells me: “George is working on his album for the first time since his life-threatening illness and he’s in great shape.

“It is no secret that he adores Adele. He even left his boyfriend Fadi Fawaz in Australia for three days while he flew in to present Adele with her Brit.

“They’ve become pals since then and are talking about doing something together.

“He is very supportive of British talent and he likes it that Adele keeps it real.”

In the past, George has collaborated with Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Mary J Blige. Now he has set his sights on Tottenham’s finest Adele, who cleaned up at the Grammys.

My mole adds: “Adele has been an admirer of George’s tunes for as long as she can remember and was so touched that George presented her Brit award.”

George Michael Premieres Song for Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s Wedding

George Michael premieres his new song, a charity gift for Catherine Middleton and Prince William’s wedding, on Piers Morgan Tonight at 9 p.m. ET.

George said on Twitter: “Im (sic) REALLY happy with it… and I know Diana would have approved. She had a copy of Older 4 months before any of you lot!”

The Idea for the Song

Well, it’s actually very, very — well, the idea came to me last week, actually, about a week ago, that I should — that I should, perhaps, kind of express my happiness at this marriage in a way publicly. You know, it was a very beautiful summer — it wasn’t summer’s day. But it was an April day that happened to be like summer here in London.

And I was twittering and kind of got carried away and decided I was going to make them a new track. Give everybody on Twitter and William and Kate a new track by Friday. So, I’ve had a very busy week.

And the strange thing about this song, actually, considering I think it’s probably the best two days work I’ve ever done in my life, two or three days work, is that when I was a child, I dreamt of singing this song in my imagination. You know, my idea of fame at the time was the school assembly hall. I was about 12. And I had this record, this Stevie Wonder song. And I used to dream of singing it in school assembly hall. But I guess this is slightly bigger deal than that.

The Song as a Gift to Catherine and William

So — and also the main thing about doing the song as a gift for them is not just a gift for them, it’s a gift that they will be able to hopefully turn into many, many donations for the royal charity, the royalweddingcharityfund.org that is, you know — which is where they asked people to give money rather than send presents of any description. I don’t know if that includes the people at the actual wedding, I don’t know if they’ve given out their toasters and their, you know, their – the wedding list, as it were, but seems very generously that they have, yes.

So, anyway, I would really like for any of my fans, or anybody who really enjoys this track, if they’re going to download it for free, which is absolutely what I’m willing to do, I would like them to go to Kate and William’s charity site and make a donation. You know, if they’re genuinely happy for these two people, which I think a lot of people are, you know?

Message on William and Catherine’s Wedding Day

Oh, I think they should — I don’t think they need any advice from me. I think the message I would give — I’m just incredibly happy for both of them. And more than anything, you know, there was a kind of — I have quite an emotional attachment to what’s going on here because I felt so bad for those boys when she (Princess Diana) passed away, and having experienced losing my mother about three or four months before that, that day was very, very strange for me.

And also, you know, when I think of what — the devastation of losing my mother, the idea of going through that when you’re not into your teens or barely into your teens is just — I just — I can’t just — words can’t describe how much admiration I have for the way that they’ve both coped with it and especially when, you know, the media has made it so much more difficult for them. I’m just incredibly happy for — incredibly happy for William, incredibly happy for his partner, and I absolutely am sure that Diana would have loved the whole thing, you know?

And I really hope that she would have loved this track. I have a feeling, she would have done — she was a big fan and she had a copy of “Older,” which is obviously an album about bereavement, about four or five months before it went out into the public eye, and she loved it. And I did once see a documentary where William was playing that album which makes me think that he found it comforting. And it was an album about bereavement. So, I was very touched by that.

The whole thing has kind of different levels of meaning for me. And I’m just incredibly happy that they’re letting me actually, you know, have some part of the benefit site, the charity site, you know? Or at least they’re letting me share some of the attention for this amazing day in a way to raise money, you know, which is great.

He will be working on the track on Tuesday and will release it on Friday as a “twitterhug.” The only hints he’s given as to the name of the song are that it starts with “You” and “It was written in the seventies by a genius…..”

This article has been updated to include the song that George Michael sang for William and Catherine’s wedding and the lyrics.

“You and I (We Can Conquer the World)” is a song written and sung by Stevie Wonder from his 1972 album Talking Book (sponsored link).

New Orders Take on George Michael’s True Faith

According to George Michael covers New Order for Comic Relief:

Former New Order bassist Peter Hook told the BBC Michael’s version was a “beautiful” interpretation but admitted it was “not exactly to my taste”.

According to Hook, the band became friends with the former Wham! singer in the 1980s when they would attend the same parties in the US.

“It’s a very, very George Michael interpretation of the song and it’s beautiful for that,” he said.

“It’s very flattering. George doing True Faith is such a great compliment.

“It blew me away when I heard it. Not exactly to my taste, but it did blow me away.

“I think he’s done a fantastic version and I’m delighted that it’s for such a good cause.”
